Windows XP Slow? Registry cleaners do help!

As some of know I do some volunteer computer administration work at my old elementary school.

I regularly add/remove programs, run spyware scans, and try and hunt down the causes of crashes whenever they need my help.

Well, in the past couple months more and more of their Windows XP systems were slowing down, some to a crawl. I tried pretty much everything I could think of and nothing was working… but I’m more of a web guy than a PC guy so I don’t really know all the tricks of the trade.

Then yesterday, as I was there trying to solve the issue, I Googled and found this post about trying a Windows XP registry cleaner when you have odd errors or a slow system.

I had heard of registry cleaners before and thought they were mostly useless, but this one offered a free scan so I gave it a shot… and guess what?

I’d say 75% of the XP systems I ended up running it on improved dramatically! Most run very fast now, I’d say completely back to normal, and all seem to boot up much fast than before.

If you have a slow computer running XP you might want to give it a try as well. I can’t say it will help all slow PCs, it didn’t help a few of ours, but it is certainly worth trying especially with all the computer problems at schools (and home) these days!
