Who Will Be The Top Safety Coordinator Of Wisconsin?

For those of you in Wisconsin, this will be of particular interest to you. The Wisconsin School Safety Coordinators Association (WSSCA) is currently accepting nominations for the best safety coordinator in the state. The WSSCA is an organization which aims to promote and improve Wisconsin schools with regard to safety, health, and wellness. This organization was founded in 1968 and is a non-profit, non-government association. Its membership extends to various professionals including administrators, supervisors, teachers, building and grounds personnel, health and nursing personnel, safety coordinators, school districts as well as private/public businesses through district, corporate and student memberships.

Year in and year out, they choose among the safety coordinators in the state to honor the best of them. Westby Times has this report:

Each year WSSCA honors the top Wisconsin school safety coordinator. This award is co-sponsored by Community Insurance Corporation and is accompanied by $1,000 for the coordinators’ school safety program.

This award is presented to a person committed to vision, leadership, and excellence in school safety. “This is an exclusive honor for Wisconsin school safety coordinators and has included award winners from across Wisconsin,” said Bryan Roessler, executive director of the Wisconsin School Safety Coordinators Association. “Wisconsin is the only state that has a school safety coordinators association and it is our pleasure to recognize these dedicated individuals.”

This year, the nominations are going to be accepted till the 16th of January. Applications can be made through the WSSCA web site or by calling this phone number (800) 236-3400.

Something like this may not seem big to some people but I think that it is quite important to recognize the people who are working behind the scenes. Let me ask you, how many schools safety coordinators do you know? How often do you read or hear about school safety coordinators who are doing a good job? You would probably have difficulties coming up with more than 5, or even 2.

On the other hand, how easy is it to pinpoint those safety coordinators who slipped up once? The media and other “concerned” citizens are very quick to pick out who those people are!

Now put yourself in the shoes of the people who are doing a great job and are not being thanked at all. How would you feel? Now I am sure that you see what I am getting at. Our school safety coordinators need to be thanked and recognized. And what WSSCA is doing is a great way of doing that, don’t you agree?
