SOMETHING REALLY BAD OUR WAY COMES

I think this is my fourth or fifth posting alluding to the possibility of a large scale terrorist attack against our schools, but I have no fear that redundancy in this instance will add up to tedium.  Somewhere deep, deep down, everybody understands the tantalizing targets our elementary and secondary schools must be to the miscreants who’ve got nothing better to do with their lives than to plot and collaborate against everything that stands for America.

TERRORISTS are all about hitting targets with the greatest VSP (Viewer Stopping Power).  Me, I can’t imagine too many more acts of public destruction (APD) that would stun and freeze television viewers in their tracks, literally for days, than every possible media source covering a series of meticulously-timed, coordinated armed attacks on strategically placed schools across this country.  Small body bags being trundled from smoldering school building in cities and towns that we (well, to be truthful, I have long looked at those kind of towns as ideal targets) never considered as ideal targets.

THE THING is, now is the time to start our Crisis Planning in our schools.  I know there are schools that have already hard-wired these crisis plans.  The time for schools to institute a realistic, modern and comprehensive Plan Of Action where local, state and federal law enforcement and First Response Personnel are dialed in to your immediate response considerations.  As I said, I have written about this before and have made my recommendations.  Likely, I will do another post or two about the specifics, but, today, my goal is to get the attention of students, parents, teachers, school security, and administrators.

DO SOMETHING now.  The tragedy of Mumbai, India should be a warning.  Targetted were all Americans and Jews.  Americans and Jews.

AND HERE is the lesson to be learned.  I am and have been a component of an anti-terrorism training network and I see the lesson in bold type with blood dripping off the letters:  The slower the counter-terrorism response, the more damage, the more hostages, and the more the killings!  A reasonable law enforcement response should be within the first 30-minutes.  It took Indian counter terrorism forces 5 hours to launch a counter-attack in Mumbai.  By then, the well-trained terrorists, who, by the way, were much more familiar with the layouts of their targets than the first and second responders, had established strongholds and were almost impossible to root out before it was too late.

Until next time, Stay Safe.  Try.
