SANDY HOOK REVISITED

Once again, the Sandy Hook Massacre is all over the news.  Understandable, since this is the one-year anniversary of the grisly Active Shooter event that shocked the nation.  Shocked the crap out of me, I have to confess.  Nothing bothers me.  Ever.  But Sandy Hook pushed Hard-Heart-Hammer, as some have called me, into paroxysms of shock and even silence.

But it’s been a year, so it’s time to share a few thoughts about Adam Fucking Lanza, the crazy, little loser who blew away 20-some humans, most of them sweet, innocent babies who never did harm to anyone or anything.   Forensic psychologists have been theorizing about this disturbing slaughter from one end of the talk-show circuit continuum to the other, so why not me?

FIRST OF ALL, WHY?

Teachers, administrators, police, parents, students, educational and criminal justice trainers.  We all want to know why.  Maybe we know why, we can stop the next loser from picking up a gun and sauntering through a classroom or other workplace and slaughtering our children, friends, husband and wives.   But I believe that it ain’t going to happen.  We ain’t gonna find out why and we ain’t gonna stop the next Adam Lanza.

Why?  No one will really ever know why Lanza did what he did.  Lanza was no different than so many others who ached for attention.  Ached to blaze his name and image into the minds of the world.  Onto the headlines.  He ached and yearned for something he never, ever quite grasped.  Control.  Control of some aspect of his life.  There is one thing I know about this slaughter.  And that an Active Shooter like Lanza tells us almost everything we need to know, maybe not about why he exploded into action, but  why he exploded on this particular day a year ago.  And that is told by whom he chose as his first victim.

His mother.

WHAT DOES HIS FIRST VICTIM TELL US?

I believe the fact that he initiated his rampage by killing his mother in such a cold-blooded manner speaks volumes about why he did what he did, why he did what he did at that moment, and even, what could have been done – maybe the Only Thing that could have been done to have prevented this mindless slaughter.

Until my next post on Sandy H0ok and Adam Lanza, stay safe.
