Safety Still In Focus As The School Year Starts
Today marks the first day of school for many children all across the United States. Though some students may still have a week’s (or even more) worth of summer vacation, there is no doubt that everyone is gearing up for this school year. Parents, school administrators, school staff, and students alike are all busy with preparations for the incoming academic year. And amidst all this preparation, school safety is still a primary concern for many.
While I was going about my daily activity of browsing online newspapers, I could not help but notice that school safety tips are being offered from various government agencies and schools all over the country. Here is one example from the Clanton Advertiser. They are offering information to the citizens of the city:
The first day of school is always the hardest, or is the second? The truth is that every day is hard when it comes to keep all of the students at school safe during the high traffic hours. This year the schools have all set out their plans early for what parents are supposed to do during the morning hours and afternoon hours of school traffic.
Each school has set out a pick-up and drop-off section where parents can choose to bring their child to and from school.
They have also set up separate sites that buses will be using to help kids from becoming confused with where they are supposed to go after school.
I like the idea that there are separate areas for buses and private vehicles. Indeed, this would at least lessen the chances of children getting “lost” when the times comes to go home. It would also make it easier for parents who are picking up their children to spot them amongst the crowd.
In Dallas, they offer these tips to parents:
Parents:
•Set your alarm clocks a bit early and make sure your students are at the bus stop five minutes before pickup.
•Remind kids to wait until the bus stops before they approach it. Once inside, kiddos should stay seated for the entire bus ride.
•Make sure kids know to head directly home after the bus drops them off from school.
These are only a couple of the things that I have read this weekend. Maybe you have your own tips or experiences to share with the rest of us? How are your back to school preparations coming along?
