Mums Protest Speeding Cars

Now this is what I am talking about. In the UK, concerned mums took it upon themselves to do something definitive about the cars that continue to go at overly fast speeds in the school zones. Outside a school in Abbey Wood, mothers with children attending De Lucy Primary School have been forming a human chain on the road leading to the school. News Hopper has this report:
Mothers of pupils at De Lucy Primary School, in Cookhill Road, have been forming a human chain across the road leading to the school’s entrance.
They decided to take action after a child was nearly run over before Christmas.
Mum Samantha Barker, of Sewell Road, Abbey Wood, says headteacher Linda Cohen has agreed to call a meeting next week to discuss the issues raised by the protestors.
The 39-year-old said: “At the meeting she’s going to advise drivers not to use the road.
“The protest is not going to be just a drop in the ocean. We are going to go all the way.”
Take note of the situation here – the mothers decided that it was time to do something about it because of dire circumstances. A child was nearly run to death before the holidays. It is true that all is well that ends well and that the child was not hurt BUT who is to say that a similar incident will not take place if nothing is done about the speeding cars in the area.
That is why I see the fact that the mothers are doing something admirable. It is a bit sad that it had to come to this point, however. The mothers should not have to form human chains and that sort of thing in order for something as simple as this to be resolved. Motorists should simply slow down and be more cautious when driving in school zones – that is common sense and the law in most places anyway.
I don’t know what the result of this protest is going to be but I am all out for supporting these mothers who realize that action is needed and who are not afraid of stepping on some toes if need be. In fact, I believe that this kind of attitude should be more present in all of us if we want positive and concrete results.
What about you, would you attend a protest of this sort?
