Fliers Serve As Reminders To Motorists

Are you concerned about the safety of your child when he or she is at school? Do you try to take measures to ensure his or her safety? Do you focus on the child alone or do you take responsibility as a motorist as well?
I am not sure if I am a hundred percent correct on this but I think that most of the time, we get caught up in ensuring that our children are safe but we sometimes overlook the fact that as motorists, we should also take utmost care when we drive. This is especially true when we are in a school zone. I suppose this is the reason that police officers in Manlius in New York are taking a pro-active stance in this regard. So what are they doing? They are distributing fliers to motorists in the area with the aim of reminding them of the rules of driving and the fines that can be imposed on them should they violate something. WTVH has this report:
If you’re driving around school zones in Manlius be prepared to be pulled over to receive a flier. And you may not want to toss it out anytime soon.
That’s because they’re reminders that school is opening back up and school speed zones are also back in full effect. the fliers provide drivers with fine and penalty information on the front side and with educational info on the back. and with some fines of up to 2-hundred and fifty dollars for violators… Manlius police hope drivers take these fliers as a fair warning.
I agree that these fliers are fair warning to everyone involved. After all, many people use the excuse that they “didn’t know the rules or the law” and that is why they violated them. On the other hand, we have the maxim “ignorance of the law does not excuse anyone.” With this step, the authorities are actually avoiding potential problems regarding this issue.
The thing is that many times, we might tend to disregard such fliers. I know I do, especially when they are handed to me during a hectic period. Sometimes I do it without thinking. I’ll tell myself that I’ll look at it later on and then totally forget about it – until it might be too late. Hopefully, the motorists in the area of Manlius will pay more attention and learn the safety measures that are required. This will not only save them from being cited and having to pay a fine but more importantly, it might potentially save lives.
Do you have any similar programs in your neighborhood? If not, maybe you should take the initiative.
