Back To School Safety Fair At Falls River Center
It seems to me that more and more people in various sectors are paying attention to school safety issues these days. Some children have already gone back to school to start the new academic year while others are still waiting on their turn. Over at Raleigh, the community is gearing up for more than the start of school. They are actually having a community-wide school safety fair.
The Back to School Safety Fair is going to be held on the 23rd of August. It will be held at the premises of the Falls River Town Center, which is actually a shopping community. The fair will start at 10 in the morning and end at 3 in the afternoon. For those near the area, the exact location of the venue is near the intersection of Durant Road and Falls of Neuse Road, about 1.5 miles from the I-540.
So what is the fair all about? The main theme of the fair is to provide children with the essential information on school safety while at the same time entertaining them. The press release for the affair provides more information:
Activities include:
• Raleigh police car and fire truck demonstrations
• Games with Raleigh Recycling
• Weather safety with Bill Reh, NBC-17 Meteorologist
• Candy guessing games with WakeMed Injury Prevention
• Bicycle safety information and posters from the NC Department of Transportation
• Buster the Bus demonstration by WCPSS
Entertainment:
• Durham Bulls mascot Wool E. Bull
• Free face painting with Mimi the clown
• Inflatable bounce castle and slide
I particularly like the activities that are listed above and how they seem to be integrated with what young children dub as “fun” activities. For example, take the candy guessing game with WakeMed Injury Prevention. I am sure that they will be imparting important information on their specialization even as they engage the children in guessing what kind of candy they are presenting – or something like that. The fact that weather safety is also included is a positive thing for me. With the weather going wacko lately, we never know what nature is going to belt out next. As such, the children will certainly benefit from knowing what to do and how to react in case of a natural disaster.
One last thing – there are so many commercial and civic establishments who are in the roster as participants. Again, the importance of everyone else’s participation in school safety efforts cannot be emphasized enough. I hope their fair proves to be a successful one.
